NEW DELHI: Be it batting or bowling, Axar Patel always steps up when the team needs him the most and the all-rounder’s brilliant catching skills were also on display in the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.
Axar took three catches at point in the match with one being the stunning take that dismissed Chamika Karunaratne. The incident occurred in the 34th over of the Sri Lanka innings when Karunaratne punched Umran Malik’s short of length delivery and Axar came up with a spectacular effort diving to his left to take the sharp catch at point.

Axar also dished out a disciplined bowling effort as he conceded just 16 runs in 5 overs including an important wicket of Dhananjaya de Silva.
Coming to the match, fantastic bowling spells from spinner Kuldeep Yadav (3/51) and pacer Mohammed Siraj (3/30) combined to bundle out Sri Lanka for just 215 runs in 39.4 overs with debutant Nuwanidu Fernando scoring a fighting half-century.
India lead the three-match series 1-0 after winning the first ODI by 67 runs. The 3rd and final ODI will be played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
