WADA extends term limits for president and vice-president posts | More sports News – Times of India

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on Monday that its Foundation Board has approved a proposal to extend the initial term limit for the positions of president and vice president from three years to six years.
In addition, a provision for a further and final term of three years has been introduced, subject to a full election process, for these top leadership roles within WADA.
“This was done in order to accommodate the initial cooling-off period and the formal election process for those positions,” WADA said in a news release.

The current three-year first term for the president and vice president often creates a situation where they have to begin campaigning for re-election around one to one and a half years into their terms. This can hinder their ability to fully focus on fulfilling their mandates.
The approved changes align the total term limit for the president and vice president to nine years, in line with the term limits for other members of WADA’s Foundation Board and Executive Committee.
Out of the 38 board members, 33 voted in favor of these revisions, one member voted against, and four votes were not received by the stated deadline.
WADA President Witold Banka and Vice President Yang Yang were both unanimously re-elected last November for a second and final three-year term in their respective positions.
