YouTube introduced its TikTok rival — YouTube Shorts in 2020. Now YouTube Shorts has surpassed 50 billion daily views.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has announced during the fourth quarter earnings call that YouTube Shorts has surpassed 50 billion daily views. The social media platform surpassed the 30 billion daily views mark last year. The company further added that this increase will reward creators and help improve the Shorts experience for everyone.
Alphabet also revealed that the company saw continued growth in the subscription business with YouTube Music and Premium surpassing 80 million subscribers, including trials.
“Creators are the lifeblood of YouTube. In 2022, more people created content on YouTube than ever before, long-form, short-form, audio, podcast, music, live streams, what sets YouTube apart is we give creators more ways to create content and connect with fans and more ways to earn money than any other platform,” added Pichai.
It’s early days for Shorts but we’re confident the runway is long. Next, connected TV, where users are increasingly watching their favorite creators on the big screen at home. As per the company, YouTube is the leader in US streaming watch time.
What the company said about Pixel smartphones of 2022
Apart from YouTube Shorts, the company also said that its Pixel smartphones of 2022 are the best-selling smartphones of the Pixel generation. “Many outlets and reviewers named Pixel 7 Pro the phone of the year. Features like Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur are incredible and help differentiate Pixel from others. 2022’s Pixel 6A, 7, and 7 Pro are the best-selling generation of phones we have ever launched,” said the company.
