YouTube has updated its official blog to announce its feat of surpassing 80 million YouTube Music and Premium subscribers globally as of September 2022. Last year, the Google-owned video streaming platform announced reaching the 50 million mark and within a year YouTube has gained 30 million more subscribers. The company has described its success as a “monumental moment” for music on YouTube, artists and subscribers on the platform. The blog also notes that YouTube contributed $6 billion in revenue to the music industry in September, out of which 30% came from user-generated content. The company has also explained how it has achieved the feat.
How YouTube Music, Premium hit 80 million paid subscribers
YouTube Premium subscription includes both standard YouTube and YouTube Music membership. The paid premium subscription offers ad-free streaming and allows users to play music/videos offline or in the background on both mobile devices and TVs.

The company has also updated the paid subscription service with new features like afterparties that enables users to access exclusive live stream content along with discounts on the latest hardware and services from Google.
YouTube Premium also makes it easier for users to enjoy different music formats including — short-form videos, long-form music videos, podcasts, live streams and more.
The company has also acknowledged its partnerships with companies like Samsung, SoftBank (Japan), Vodafone (Europe), and LG U+ (Korea) to surpass the 80 million paid subscribers mark.

Recently, Youtube announced that the company is bringing its mobile-first small video format, Shorts, to large-screen devices like — TVs, consoles and streaming devices. The UI design will use the vertical format for screens that are watched in landscape mode.
