Windows 11 officially supports newer processors from Intel and AMD – Times of India

0
When Windows 11 arrived, Microsoft received a lot of criticism for limiting the compatibility to newer hardware, especially the processor. While, the company hasn’t added support for any older generation PCs, rendering them stuck to Windows 10, newer ones seem to have made it to the list of compatible processors for Windows 11.
Windows Latest has reported that Microsoft has quietly updated the supported processor list in the official support document with the recently launched 13th-generation Intel processors. Along with that, the company has also added support for AMD Ryzen 7000 series desktop processors. The update appears soon after Microsoft started rolling out the latest version 22H2 update (Windows 11 2022 update) which includes support for newer processors from both Intel and AMD.
Microsoft, last year, added support for some 7th-generation Intel Core X-series and Xeon W-series processors to the list. However, the company has confirmed that it will not add any other older processor to the supported list for Windows 11.
This means the processors which aren’t on the list won’t support Windows 11 and the device powered by them won’t get support for the OS ever. The processor isn’t the only thing that requires to successfully upgrade a PC to Windows 11. The system also needs to meet other requirements such as TPM 2.0, UEFI secure boot, minimum 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage, which hasn’t changed since its launch.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is reportedly gearing up to roll out the Moment 2 feature drop update for Windows 11. The update is expected to bring several new but small features to the operating system.
