Why the iPhone 14 pre-orders suggest that size may not matter – Times of India

0
Does the size matter? Maybe not for Apple’s new iPhone 14 Plus. This year Apple brought back the ‘Plus’ iPhone – the iPhone 14 Plus – replacing the small-sized ‘mini’ iPhone, which suffered a sad fate reportedly due to low demand. But, it seems like not many are interested in buying the iPhone 14 Plus either, as per analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In his latest post on Medium, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says pre-order numbers for the newly announced iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are “bad” than last year’s iPhone 13, even the iPhone 13 mini.
Apple’s new segmentation strategy seems to be failing
The delivery time for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is significantly shorter than that of the iPhone 13 and 13 mini. The analyst notes that the two standard models — iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus — will be available in retail stores on the launch day.
This means two things – first, the two iPhones are having a tough time finding buyers, and second, Apple seems to have overestimated the demand, and its strategy of having a bigger-sized iPhone rather than a small-sized ‘mini’ has failed.
Kuo says, there are high chances that Apple could cut down the orders for these two iPhone models.
iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max are selling better than iPhone 13 Pro series
Meanwhile, things for the ‘Pro; models seem to be going good, as the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have “neutral” and “good” pre-order results compared to their predecessors. The delivery time for the iPhone 14 Pro is around four weeks, while one would have to wait for five to six weeks to get their hands on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, reflecting good demand, according to Kuo.
As per Kuo, the iPhone 14 series overall has a better demand compared to the two last generations of iPhones – the iPhone 13 series and the iPhone 12 series.
The lower-than-expected demand for iPhone 14, 14 Plus could hamper Apple’s revenue this quarter
The analyst expects the strong demand for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max to continue till November. After this, Apple could decide to increase the orders for two iPhone 14 Pro models. But if it decides otherwise, Apple’s revenue from the iPhones could falter later this quarter.
