Why Shaan feels we are luckier than most nations in terms of vaccines
Singer Shaan is glad that the vaccination drive in the country is at a good pace. He’s got his first vaccine and urges people to get vaccinated soon. “The second wave was scary and frustrating as things were getting back to normal and then we were hit with it. The spike in numbers and overwhelmed health workers were really difficult times. To come out of it and bringing positivity was tough. But the government and authorities worked through it and did well. The vaccination drive in the country too is going well. While we are cribbing about things regarding the vaccine, I think we are luckily as we have companies creating vaccines. There are countries, who have to buy them and facing hard time procuring vaccines, so things are moving slower in a number of them,” he says.
While he has been at home with his family doing virtual gigs, the singer has also sung and shot for a song for Father’s Day called Main Toh Tera Hissa Hoon, that talks about the bond between aging father and young son. “It is also a way to remind 40-50-year-olds that our parents are getting older and we need to be there for them. Don’t wait till it is too late,” he says. His young son Shubh, too, will shoot the song with him, which has been a “wonderful experience”.
His eldest son, Soham produces music along with his band while Shubh enjoys singing and makes his own music videos too, reveals the proud dad. But Shaan admits that you can’t pass on the legacy to anyone. Talking about his sons following in his footsteps, he shares, “There are so many great artists and singers whose kids may not have been as good as them. Comparisions is not an advantage. Each one has to carve their own path and make their own identity. Both my kids are hard working, focussed and good at studies. They are not spoilt kids and proud that they want to do it their way and are willing to work hard for it. I have do’s and don’ts about singing but I don’t push those ideas on my kids.”
An accomplished singer, Shaan feels today, playback singing is more about chance. Would a career in playback singing something that he would want his kids to pursue? “Singing and maybe becoming a pop singer should be their focus. Or a performing artists would be suited. These days Bollywood is open to so many genres and every kind of talent and voice is welcome. I started out as a pop artist and then did playback singing happened. Moreover, these days, lipsyncing isn’t used much and more songs are becoming background songs. But today I see Indie pop is returning with so many singles and music videos releasing,” he says.
