Long before Ranbir Kapoor went on to become one of the top actors in Bollywood, he was in tough competition with Imran Khan, who had debuted just a year after him. The two had even joined hands to host the Filmfare awards in 2009 and were a sport as they listed points to lay their claim to being the “future of the Hindi film industry”. It was just after Ranbir had delivered a hit in his second film Bachna Ae Haseeno (after an unsuccessful debut with Saawariya) and Imran had delivered a flop in Kidnap after a successful debut with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. From making fun of their films that didn’t work to dragging their film families in the conversation, they did all on stage to make it a hilarious watch. An old video from the awards night was shared on Reddit recently. When Ranbir told Imran on stage, “Dekh mujhe, mere paas six pack hai, height hai (look at me, I have six pack abs and height),” Imran Khan cut him short, saying, “mere paas face pack hai, white hai (I have the looks and am so fair).”

When Imran mentioned how his family members have been getting awards for several years, Ranbir countered him with a jibe at Imran’s uncle Aamir Khan, “at least meri family wale saalo se award lene to aare hain (at least my family members having been coming to collect their awards).” Aamir has famously shunned award shows for o

They even mentioned how they have done films with another rising star of that time, Minissha Lamba. Imran had worked with her in Kidnap and Ranbir had worked with her in Bachna Ae Haseeno. Both the films released in 2008. Consistent in their efforts to demean each other, Ranbir said Imran’s last name reminded people of Aamir Khan, while Imran said Ranbir’s surname reminded people of Sonam Kapoor.

A Reddit user commented on the video, “Back when Kangana hadn’t introduced us to nepotism. Lol.” Many said Imran definitely looked more handsome than Ranbir. A comment about Imran also read, “I don’t know why he did it, but yeah he exited the industry. He wasn’t irrelevant.”

Ranbir delivered the highest grossing Bollywood this year, Brahmastra. It was his first blockbuster post 2018 film Sanju. Imran was last seen in 2015 film Katti Batti before he bid goodbye to acting. He was recently spotted at cousin Ira Khan’s engagement bash.
