WhatsApp starts rolling out group profile icons feature for beta users – Times of India

A recent online report revealed that WhatsApp is working on the ability to share screens during video calls. Now WABetaInfo has revealed that the popular messaging app is rolling out the feature to add profile icons to group chats to some beta testers.
WABetaInfo, the website which keeps track of changes in WhatsApp build, has reported that the Meta-owned platform is rolling out the group profile icons feature for Android beta testers. With this feature, profile icons will show up within the group chat, making it easier for users to distinguish other group participants.
“Since this feature adds profile icons to group chats, you need to open a group chat to discover if the feature is available for your account again. This feature is designed to assist users in recognizing group members more easily, and it allows quick differentiation between different members by utilizing their profile icons,” mentioned the report.
The profile icon feature is particularly useful in scenarios where group members share similar names or haven’t set a profile picture. In such cases, if a group member hasn’t uploaded a profile photo or has chosen to conceal it, WhatsApp will display a default empty profile picture. The default profile picture will have a color that matches the contact’s name, enhancing identification within the group.
As mentioned above the feature is available to the Android beta testers and expected to soon roll out for all the Android WhatsApp users.
WhatsApp testing new feature for business
WhatsApp has initiated the testing phase for a new feature known as Status Archive within the WhatsApp Business app. Similar to other experimental features, the Status Archive feature is currently being rolled out in beta and is accessible to a select group of WhatsApp Business for Android beta testers. According to reports, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, plans to expand the availability of this feature to more beta users in the upcoming weeks.
Once activated, this feature presents users with a notification banner located in the Status tab. By enabling the Status Archive feature, users ensure that their status updates will be automatically archived on their device after 24 hours of being posted. Additionally, users have the flexibility to personalize their archive preferences and conveniently view all archived statuses directly within the Status tab. This streamlined approach grants users easy access to their previous updates while maintaining control over their archive management.
