What Elon Musk said about suspending Kanye West’s Twitter account – Times of India
The first high-profile account suspension on Twitter under Elon Musk has finally happened. Ye — better known as Kanye West — has got his account suspended after he posted an image of swastika inside the Star of David. Interestingly, Ye recently only came back to Twitter after his account was reinstated by Musk.
What made Twitter suspend the account
The image, as per Musk, was incitement to violence. “I tried my best,” said Musk. “Despite that, he again violated our rule against incitement to violence. Account will be suspended.”
Just before his account was suspended, Ye had posted a rather unflattering photo of Musk.In a follow-up tweet, Musk once again clarified why was the account suspended. “Just clarifying that his account is being suspended for incitement to violence, not an unflattering pic of me being hosed by Ari. Frankly, I found those pics to be helpful motivation to lose weight!”
A recent report had suggested that about 62,000 accounts that have more than 10,000 followers are in the process of being reinstated on Twitter. Further, there are 75 accounts with 1 million followers that will also be brought back on Twitter. Another account with 5 million followers is also being reinstated. The report mentions that the identities of these accounts isn’t known as of now.
Musk, meanwhile, had made it clear that Twitter will still suspend or ban accounts. “I have now said several times of Twitter that incitement to violence, obviously including threats of physical harm, will result in account suspension,” he said in a tweet last week.
As for Ye, multiple reports had suggested that he was interested in buying Parler — another social media platform. However, a spokesperson of Parler’s account confirmed that the deal is off. “Parlement Technologies has confirmed that the company has mutually agreed with Ye to terminate the intent of sale of Parler. This decision was made in the interest of both parties in mid-November,” a company spokesperson said in a statement Thursday.
