Australia cricketers, including fast bowler Pat Cummins and former captain Steve Smith, were allowed to exit the 14-day mandatory hotel quarantine on Monday after arriving from the Maldives following the suspension of IPL.

Australia players, support staff and officials, a contingent of 36 members, arrived in Australia from the Maldives earlier this month and were asked to be in hotel quarantine across various cities. The Australian contingent was not allowed to travel back home directly from India due to a travel ban imposed by the Australian government amid rising Covid-19 cases in India. The ban was lifted on May 15 and Australia players were flown home on a chartered plane arranged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

In a video that was shared by Australian journalist Chole-Amanda Bailey, Pat Cummins can be seen coming out of his quarantine and greeted by his pregnant wife. It was an emotional moment for the couple as the two embraced each other. Cummins, sporting a mask, was seen getting out of quarantine on Monday.

Pat Cummins played for Kolkata Knight Riders before the IPL was suspended on May 4 due to positive Covid-19 cases in the bio-bubbles of franchises in Ahmedabad and Mumbai. KKR camp reported 3 positive Covid-19 cases, including two which were reported before the suspension of IPL 2021.

Meanwhile, David Warner reunited with his family and his daughters gave him an emotional welcome at his residence. Warner’s wife Candice took to social media to share clips of their daughters greeting the former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain.

Warner was keen on getting back home as he shared a photo of his alarms. The left-handed opener had set as many as 5 alarms for Monday morning. “Never wanted an alarm or 5 to go off so badly,” Warner wrote on social media.

Warner stepped down as captain of SRH midway during IPL 2021. He was replaced by Kane Williamson. Incidentally, Warner was dropped for their final league game before IPL 2021 was suspended.

Fast bowler Jason Behrendorff, who was signed as replacement by Chennai Super Kings, also reunited with his family in Australia.

“It’s always tough being stuck somewhere, and knowing that we’re able to get home was a relief, and now we’re out of quarantine, I can’t wait to get home and see my family,” Behrendorff told Australian media.

The remaining matches of the IPL will be completed in the United Arab Emirates in September and October, the BCCI confirmed over the weekend. It remains to be seen if overseas players will make themselves available for the remainder of the season which is set to be played before the T20 World Cup.

Cummins, Smith, Warner and Behrendorff will have only a few weeks to rest before heading off for the white-ball tour of West Indies which starts July 9.
