NEW DELHI: Getting the Test cap is probably the biggest moment in a cricketer’s life and on Thursday a dream came true for Suryakumar Yadav and Srikar Bharat who made their debuts in the longest format of the game.
Suryakumar and Bharat made the cut into the playing eleven for the first Test against Australia.
Surya, who has been a revelation with his 360 degree style of play in the limited overs cricket, has been handed Test cap by former India head coach Ravi Shastri.

“Surya, many congratulations, wear this with pride and honour and remember that every time you step out for your country, you have reached here not with anybody’s help, you have reached here because of what you have done and the way you performed over the last few months,” Shastri told Surya while presenting him a Test cap.
“So enjoy, your game should not change just because of this stamp “Test match cricket”. You play the way you play and treat it as another game. Enjoy yourself and entertain,” he further added.
India head coach Rahul Dravid also expressed his happiness over Surya and Bharat’s debuts. “Always a special day when a couple of more boys join our family. It’s obviously a huge dream come true for millions of people and there haven’t been many people who had the pleasure and privilege of having a Test cap and playing Test cricket for India,” Dravid said.
“You have worked really hard to earn this. Wish you all the very best, be yourself, play the way you do and wish you all the very best for a successful Test career,” Pujara told Bharat while presenting him a cap.
In a first, the BCCI invited both Suryakumar and Bharat’s families to come inside the ground and watch the Test cap presentation ceremony.
