Uttar Pradesh: Govt hospitals to have separate wards for H1N1, dengue patients

Lucknow: A day after Allahabad high court pulled up authorities for poor handling of vector-borne diseases in government hospitals, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak directed the health department to make separate wards for H1N1 (swine flu) and dengue patients.

He also asked authorities to put up names and mobile numbers of doctors, chief pharmacists and paramedical staff on the main gate of hospitals. “By putting numbers of staff, it will be easier to contact them during an emergency,” said Pathak, who also holds the health portfolio.

He also mandated healthcare officials to give flu vaccine to all doctors and medical staff as soon as possible for protection against H1N1. Further, he asked officials to increase bed capacity in government hospitals, if needed, and expand testing of vector-borne diseases.

The DyCM also asked officials to ensure availability of basic amenities like drinking water for all indoor patients. The minister also took stock of availability of medicines and rabies vaccine in government hospitals.

Meanwhile, divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob took stock of KGMU’s Gandhi ward and reiterated the same directions given by the DyCM.

She instructed concerned doctors to take routine rounds in wards and ensure proper care is given to patients. Later, she inspected the HRF medical centre and asked staff to provide medicines at cheaper rates.

Other than this, district magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar directed Lucknow municipal corporation officials to conduct fogging across the city twice-a-day to curb the dengue menace. In the evening, he visited SPM Civil hospital and directed officials to reserve extra beds for dengue patients.
