Twitter to remove inactive accounts: How will it affect users – Times of India

Twitter chief Elon Musk is set to make yet another change to the social media platform. The billionaire has recently shared a tweet to announce that the micro-blogging site will remove accounts that have been inactive for several years. Musk also mentioned that this action is “important to free up abandoned handles.”. He also shared a separate tweet to state that the inactive accounts will be archived. However, Musk did not add any details on when the process will start. Currently, users don’t know if or how to access archived accounts on Twitter.

How this can affect users
Musk has also made users aware of the impacts of such a move. Twitter’s CEO said that as several inactive accounts may be removed, users on the platform may see a drop in follower count.
To avoid permanent removal due to prolonged inactivity, users need to log in to their accounts at least once a month (30 days). This is what the company’s policy states.

In a protest against a Twitter label that implied government involvement in its editorial content, National Public Radio, a public broadcaster stopped posting content to its 52 official Twitter feeds. So, Musk “threatened” to reassign the broadcaster’s account to another company.
Last month, Twitter removed the legacy verified blue tick from the profiles of several users. These accounts included celebrities, journalists and politicians. In an attempt to tackle the issue of bot accounts on the social media platform, Musk has made account verification a part of Twitter’s Blue subscription.
