Twitter rolls out ‘soft block’ feature: Here’s how it works – Times of India
Twitter has rolled out a new feature that will allow you to remove followers without blocking them. The action is also dubbed as ‘soft block. The social media platform started testing this feature last month and now it will be accessible to every user. To silently remove a follower or to soft block someone, you have to go to your profile and click on followers. After that click on the three dots next to the follower you want to remove and select ‘remove this follower’.
The soft block is quite different from block because the users can still access your tweets and profile. The users will be allowed to direct message you as well but they won’t be able to see your updates in their feeds. The users will also be allowed to follow you again. Till now, to remove a follower, you only had the option to block.
This new feature comes as part of anti-harassment efforts by the platform. Last month, Twitter also started testing a new feature called Safety Mode that automatically blocks accounts that use potentially harmful language. It is not yet clear when this new feature will be rolled out but by looking at the release of the soft block feature, it is expected that this feature will be out soon.
Recently, the platform has also improved the quality of video and live broadcasts. To boost the video quality, the company has removed a pre-processing step in its video pipeline during upload. The removed step used to divide videos into smaller sections for ingestion. The additional processing used to hamper the quality of the video. Toi aid the quality of the live broadcasts, Twitter removed the option to invite guests when you go live. The feature to invite guests in a broadcast via audio before going live was introduced in March last year.
