Meta is launching its Twitter rival app, Threads, on July 6, the company has confirmed. Not that it needed a confirmation because the app is already listed on App Store with an expected debut date of July 6. But it is always good to have an official word on such developments.
“Heads up, we’re launching our text app, called Threads, on Thursday. We’re hoping to build an open, civil place for conversation. We have a ton more work to do, but I’m very excited to get it into your hands and hear what you think,”Instagram head Adam Mosseri said on his Channel.

Threads on iPhone, Android

Instagram’s Threads app is likely to be launched on iPhones first. The App Store has already listed the app and shared some screenshots that provide a look at how the app will look like on iOS.
This past weekend, reports suggested that Threads was briefly spotted on Google Play Store.
In case you need a reminder to download the app when it launches, search for the term “threads” on Instagram, and tap on the red coloured ticket in the search bar. A ticket will appear and at the bottom of the screen, tap “Set Reminder”.
The ticket says that the app will be live on 7.30 pm sans the timezone.

How will the app work
A report by The Information earlier this year claimed that this standalone app will be based on Instagram. It will be integrated with ActivityPub, which is an open, decentralised social networking protocol that provides a client/server API for creating, updating and deleting content.
The report said that Threads will enable its users to take their accounts and followers to other apps that support ActivityPub.
“We’ve been hearing from creators and public figures who are interested in having a platform that is sanely run, that they believe that they can trust and rely upon for distribution,” Meta chief product officer Chris Cox was quoted as saying.
It was also reported that Meta is also trying to get some celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama onboard.
