“This is a lie”: Read what ex-Twitter employee said on Elon Musk’s $400 lunch claim – Times of India
The spat began when Musk claimed in a tweet that for over a year, estimated cost per lunch served at Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco is about $400 (approximately Rs 32,350). He was replying to a tweet that contained a screenshot of a The New York Times report saying that Twitter employees would have to start paying for office lunches themselves.
To Musk’s tweet, Tracy Hawkin, company’s former Vice President of Work Transformation, said that she ran this food programme on the micro blogging site until a week ago and that Musk is lying. “For breakfast & lunch we spent $20-$25 a day per person. This enabled employees to work thru lunchtime & mtgs. Attendance was anything from 20-50% in the offices.”

“False” Musk replied, adding that “Twitter spends $13M/year on food service for SF HQ.” He even claimed that there are more people preparing breakfast than eating breakfast.

In his first address to Twitter employees after taking control of the company, Musk told staff to expect 80-hour work weeks and said that there would be fewer perks like free office lunches. He also asked employees working remotely to return to the office or “resignation accepted.”
Musk has already laid off 50% of Twitter’s 7,500 staff, which includes Twitter India’s 90% employees.
Musk fires employee who questioned his assessment
Recently, Musk fired a Twitter employee on the social media platform after he dubbed Musk’s claims of Twitter being “super slow” in many countries, due to the app doing “>1000 poorly batched RPCs just to render timelines” as “wrong”. Eric Frohnhoefer, the developer who was fired via a tweet, said he has worked on Twitter for Android for years and Musk’s assessment is wrong.
