Do you know what’s common between Tamil actor Ajith Kumar, veteran artiste Ratna Pathak Shah, spiritual master Sadhguru and actor Sonu Sood? Well they all have quite recently gone on bike trips across cities! We bring you some celebs and stories from their adventures.

Work & fun

An all-female cast of the film Dhak Dhak, co-produced by Taapsee Pannu, is the first film to showcase women riders reaching the highest motorable pass in the country—Khardung La. The actresses, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanjana Sanghi rode the bikes from Delhi to Khardung La as part of the prep. Dia wrote on Instagram: “I’ve been thinking to myself, did we really do this? Did we manage to truly make this happen? Yes we did… For now we are celebrating the fact that we are the first film crew to ride from Delhi to Khardung La —the world’s highest motorable pass.”

Sonu Sood

Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood turned host for the show Roadies latest season. As Roadies is synonymous with bike-lovers, the actor shares, “The Roadies journey took me across the cities of South Africa and the young riders’ energy rubbed off on me as well. Our trip ended in Cape Town and it proved to be the best way to explore a new country. It never for a moment felt like work.”

At an event in Chandigarh recently, the actor went back to his college years when he had a passion for bikes and loved to ride on the roads in Punjab. He had said, “For an actor, it is important to take care of the body and stay away from injuries. It made me part ways with bikes although I had bought a Harley Davidson. Now, my friends ride it more than myself. But hopefully with more seasons of Roadies as a host, will get to relive those golden moments.”

Shahid Kapoor

Actors Shahid Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Ishaan Khattar went for an all-boys’ bike trip to Europe and shared pictures on social media. Tamil actor Ajith Kumar too went on solo bike trip across Europe. Bollywood actors John Abraham and Vidyut Jammwal also have an extensive collection of bikes and often find time from their busy schedule for a biking vacation. Among actresses, Gul Panag is a passionate rider while Sonakshi Sinha recently learnt how to ride a bike for her upcoming series Dahaad.

For actor and former Big Boss contestant Abhinav Shukla, bike ride is an expression of freedom, courage and responsibility. “I have taken many bike rides across India, but the best was from Manali to Leh. I am planning a Mumbai to Kashmir trip in winter,” he says.

Riding solo

If you have adventure on your mind and want to be one with the elements, nothing can beat a bike ride. My favourite bike-ride memory is the one that I had in the Dandelli Wildlife Sanctuary. The trips hardcore bikers would love to do are to Zanskar, Spiti Valley and Mustang Valley in Nepal. I generally like riding solo, just me, my bike and my music. —Herumb Khot, Producer

Memorable experience

I have travelled from Jaisalmer to Delhi by bike while participating in the Roadies show. Also, when I was shooting in Ladakh I explored the union territory on a bike. The experience during Roadies was quite memorable as there were groups and we used to ride 200-km each day. However, it’s true that bike-riding is risky and as an actor one always has to think of avoiding injuries. —Anuj Sachdeva, Actor
