The Kerala Story continued to trend and showed upward growth on its sixth day of release, earning 12 crore on Wednesday. It has made 68.86 crore so far at the domestic box office since its release on May 5. Directed by Sudipto Sen, the film stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani. While the film has been mired in controversy, with calls for bans in certain states, its box office run has not been affected. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared on Twitter, “#TheKeralaStory is unbeatable and unstoppable… Continues its dream run on weekdays… Fri 8.03 cr, Sat 11.22 cr, Sun 16.40 cr, Mon 10.07 cr, Tue 11.14 cr, Wed 12 cr. Total: 68.86 cr. #India biz. BLOCKBUSTER. #Boxoffice Growth / Decline on *weekdays*… Mon: [growth] 25.40% / Tue: [growth] 10.63% / Wed: [growth] 7.72% Excellent Trending.”

While there has been a decline on Monday, the film has performed well on weekends as the film has been trending both on social media and the news. If it continues this upward trend, it could hit 100 crore by the weekend. The film is also opening overseas on May 12, which will add to its overall collections.

On Wednesday, actor Adah Sharma, director Sudipto Sen, producer and creative Vipul Amrutlal Shah met with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. The Hindi film was declared tax-free in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and the film’s team wanted to thank the CM for his support. Madhya Pradesh and Haryana have also declared that the film will be tax-free for audiences.

In a recent interview, producer Vipul reacted to the backlash the film had been receiving and said that The Kerala Story is not ‘against Muslims or Islam’ but against terrorism. He told Rediff, “This film is not against a particular religion or caste. What has been most satisfying is that some people were posting angry, nasty and abusive messages against the film. Three of them have publicly apologised on the same platform after seeing the film, calling it a fantastic film. That’s a very big vindication or validation of what we have been saying.”
