Team India to play 3 ODIs, 8 T20s and 5 Tests in 2023-24 home season | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Team India will have a comprehensive home season in 2023-2024 which includes a three-match ODI series against Australia to fine-tune their preparations for the World Cup followed by eight T20 internationals, and five Test matches against England.

The ODI series against Australia will kick off on September 22 in Mohali, followed by matches in Indore on September 24 and Rajkot on September 27. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the home season schedule on Tuesday.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah had previously mentioned that venues like Mohali, Nagpur, Rajkot, Indore, and Thiruvananthapuram, which were not selected to host World Cup games, will be compensated during the home season with a minimum of two matches each.

Interestingly, after the World Cup in October-November, there are no scheduled ODI games in India. The focus then shifts to T20 cricket, as India will play the T20 World Cup next year in the USA and West Indies.
The Hardik Pandya-led team will have eight T20 matches at home, including five against Australia a week after the ODI World Cup, and three more against Afghanistan in January 2024.
With the BCCI expected to announce the media rights tender during the week, the release of the home season calendar was a necessary step. The schedule ensures a good balance of games across different formats, allowing the Indian team to prepare thoroughly for the World Cup and other major tournaments on their home soil.

Afghanistan had played a Test match in India in 2018 but the white ball team will play its maiden series in India.
Visakhapatnam (November 23), Thiruvananthapuram (November 26), Guwahati (November 28), Nagpur (December 1) and Hyderabad (December 3) will host the T20s against Australia while Mohali (January 11), Indore (January 14) and Bengaluru (January 17) will stage matches against Afghanistan.
The big-ticket event during the home series is the Anthony De Mello Trophy between India and England. Hyderabad (January 25-29), Visakhapatnam (February 2-6), Rajkot (February 15-19), Ranchi (February 23-27) and Dharamsala (March 7-11) will get to host the games in the five Test series.
Dharamsala got a game because it missed out during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year as the ground couldn’t be prepared on time.
After England series, there will be a three-week gap before the start of Indian Premier League.
