Tata recently hiked the Tiago EV prices in India by Rs 20,000 across all variants. The Tiago EV now starts at Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Tiago EV is quicker than Innova Crysta Diesel

While speed is not a forte of the Tiago hatchback, the car’s electric powertrain does pack in an adequate amount of oomph when it comes to outright acceleration. The Ziptron architecture with its 74bhp of peak power and 110Nm of peak torque is less powerful than its petrol-powered counterpart which delivers about 85bhp of power and 113Nm of peak torque. However, the intrinsic nature of the electric motor to deliver its torque instantly helps the Tiago EV beat the petrol-powered Tiago by 1.5 seconds.

Interestingly, the Tata Tiago EV’s closest competitor the Citroen eC3 electric hatchback is also considerably slower. The French hatchback is conservatively tuned and despite having 143Nm of peak torque on offer, reports a time of 16.36 seconds to sprint from a standstill to 100kmph. The performance figures for the MG Comet EV are not yet available but the EV is unlikely to be any faster given its tall stance, narrow track, tiny tyres and commute-oriented electric powertrain.

The Tata Tiago EV is quicker than many mainstream passenger cars also. Petrol-powered Toyota Glanza (Manual) and Maruti Suzuki (Automatic) closely follow the Tiago EV at 13.54 seconds and 13.67 seconds respectively thanks to their free-revving naturally aspirated ICE. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara (Manual) also manages a time of 13.99 seconds despite having a heavier AWD setup on board. India’s favourite MPV, the Toyota Innova Crysta (Manual), with its big burly 2.4 litre 150bhp and 343Nm torque producing oil guzzler manages the zero to 100kmph sprint in 14.11 seconds.

Other vehicles which top follow the Tiago EV when it comes to 0-100kmph timings include Citroen C3 (14.32 seconds), Mahindra Bolero Neo (15.13 seconds), Maruti Celerio AMT (15.77 seconds), and Tata Altroz DCA (18.25 seconds).
