Take-Two teases a new Lord of the Rings game: What to expect – Times of India

Weta Workshop’s interactive game division is developing a new Lord of the Rings game with Take-Two Interactive. Both the companies have agreed to work on this Middle-earth game which has also been a common topic of adaptation for both screenplays as well as gameplays.
According to a report by TechRadar, Take-Two label Private Division will be publishing the game that has already been behind games like — The Outer Worlds, Hades and OlliOlli World. Private Division has also recently shared a tweet from its official account to announce the collaboration with Weta Workshop.

What is this new Lord of the Rings game
The head of interactive at Wētā Workshop, Amie Wolken has teased this new game while speaking on Private Division’s official website about the partnership. Wolken explains that the upcoming unnamed Lord of the Rings game will be, “one that’s so different from what fans have played previously.” Apart from the Middle-earth setting of the game, there are not many details available about the title.

New Lord of the Rings game availability
As per the report, there is no speculated release date yet as the game is in its early stage of development. However, this project is expected to launch “during Take-Two’s Fiscal Year 2024,” the report suggests. Considering Take-Two being a multiplatform publisher and the given timeframe hints that the game will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the report adds.
Other upcoming Middle-earth games
Early adaptations like — The Lord of the Rings War in the North and Middle-earth Shadow of War have been more action-oriented. However, the report suggests that the upcoming game might not be the same as the previous ones but couldn’t predict the exact plans of the developers. The report adds that titles like — LEGO The Hobbit and the MMORPG game Lord of the Rings Online offers a more comical experience.

Apart from that, another upcoming adaptation set during the first few chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring — The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is also expected to release this year. This game which also promises a different experience will be published by Nacon and Daedalic Entertainment, the report adds.
The gameplay of this title is split between Gollum and Sméagol (his former self) where players will need to manage these two aspects of his character across a series of stealth and platforming sections, the report mentions. However, Gollum has recently got delayed into late 2022.
