Suriya 42 producer credits SS Rajamouli for film’s massive budget, says ‘if he hadn’t done Baahubali…’
Producer Gnanavel Raja has opened up on his yet-untitled upcoming Tamil film with Suriya. In an interview, Gnanavel said that he is producing the film on a budget that is three times more than the usual budget for Suriya’s films so far. He revealed that it was SS Rajamouli and his film Baahubali that opened the window and showed the way for south filmmakers to make ambitious projects. The film, currently dubbed Suriya 42, marks the maiden collaboration between the actor and director Siruthai Siva. Disha Patani plays the female co-star. Reportedly, the film is being made on a budget of over ₹200 crore. The film is touted to be a 3D periodic drama. It will be made in 10 languages and in two parts.
In an interview with Galatta’s Youtube channel, Gnanavel explained why he spent massively on making Suriya 42 and hid the actual budget of the film from the actor. He said, “After seeing the motion poster of the film by the director, I understood that I am not producing a normal film. This film is made on a budget that’s thrice the amount of Suriya’s biggest film so far. Even Suriya sir doesn’t know this because he will panic.”
He also said that Suriya ‘is careful about taking risks and affecting the producer’ adding that the actor is ‘extra careful’ when it is Gnanavel. He also said that his team hid the budget from Suriya though he ‘understands that we are up to doing something big visually’.
Talking about deciding to spend big bucks on the project, Gnanavel credited SS Rajamouli for paving the way. “Be it Pushpa or Suriya 42 or any project from here, if it is making noise in Mumbai, it is because of Rajamouli sir. If he hadn’t done something like Baahubali, we would have nothing to do in Bombay. The reason behind Suriya 42’s big budget is Rajamouli. If he hadn’t opened the window, we wouldn’t have been able to do it,” he added.
The first look and title of the film will be revealed on April 14 on the occasion of Tamil New Year, Gnanavel also revealed. He further added that the film’s teaser will be released in May.
