See Christmas come alive at Queen Victoria Building
Christmas History Tour: Divine decorations
There are so many beautiful details to the QVB that it’s worth taking a guided tour that takes you through its history. In a much-looked-forward-to-festive outing, the special edition tours put you in the heart of the Christmas action. Learn about the history of Christmas at QVB and the stories behind the decorations and activities.
Festive fact: During the special edition History Tour, look out for the 45 hand-painted flannel flowers created by artists Jude Jarrett and Jeffrey Samuels.
Sounds of Christmas: Choirs to bring you joy
This year, the beautiful interior of the QVB will be full of music, enchanting visitors via a programme that promises to delight with all your favourite Christmas songs. Ready to fill the space with the festive spirit are an impressive array of music ensembles including the Australian Girls’ Choir, Circular Keys Chorus, and With One Voice Choir and more. Catch these performances Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm, and Saturdays from 11am to 1pm.
Festive fact: Also performing is the Barayagal Choir, a not-to-be-missed community choir that brings together those who’ve never sung before as well as experienced performers.
High tea with Santa: Finely festive
Picture this: You’ve got a gorgeous high tea in front of you as you enjoy the ambience of the iconic QVB Tea Room. Now add this: Santa is there as well!
Yes, the Man in Red is QVB’s special guest through November until Christmas Eve so you can not only enjoy the Tea Room’s carefully curated selection of scrumptious morsels but also spend some moments and take photos with Santa during your visit. Ho, ho… have another scone!
Festive fact: For High Tea with Santa this year every child will get a special present from May Gibbs.
Gifts for all: Christmas shopping sorted
Of course, one thing QVB is renowned for at any time of year is its suite of luxe labels, great retailers and unique offerings – and therefore it’s the perfect destination to find something for everyone’s stocking at Christmas. So, whether your loved ones would adore something original from The Art of Dr Seuss, or The Aboriginal Art Gallery, some deliciously sweet treats from Koko Black or Haigh’s Chocolates, or covetable items from top labels such as RM Williams, Oroton, Coach or Kenzo, let QVB tick off that Christmas gift list.
Festive fact: Once you’ve bought for everyone, you can have your selections wrapped in style at QVB’s pop-up Gifting Suite on Level 2. Too easy!
Food and wine: Merry moments aplenty
There are many places to take a moment to relax between piling up the pressies, or to meet friends for a festive catch-up. Grab a coffee and lunch or brunch at cafes such as Vienna Coffee Bar or Manon Patisserie, celebrate the party season with a tipple at the ESQ Bar & Dining, or a glass of bubbles at Reign Champagne Parlour, or savour some wine and a meal at Cellini’s or Cichetti. Go on, you deserve it.
Festive fact: You can even celebrate the big day itself at QVB! Venues such as Reign and ESQ are open December 25 for a Christmas lunch to remember.
