Satyaprem Ki Katha box office preview: Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani’s film scores fifth largest advance booking of 2023
Satyaprem Ki Katha, the romantic comedy starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani in lead roles, has released in cinemas on the occasion of Eid on June 29. It has an extended weekend of four days to its benefit, but the film seems to have already secured a strongold at the box office with its high advance booking. Reunion of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 pair
Satyaprem Ki Katha reunites Kartik and Kiara after their blockbuster from last year, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Anees Bazmee’s horror comedy that earned ₹185.92 crore at the domestic box office. The sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2007 Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan-starrer, also starring Tabu and Rajpal Yadav, was one of the first major box office successes after the theatre shutdown induced by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Advance booking
Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel tweeeted on Thursday morning that Satyaprem Ki Katha had sold 51,500 tickets till Wednesday 10 pm across all three major chains – INOX, PVR and Cinepolis – in the country. He dubbed it as “one of the best pre-sale for a mid-size film post pandemic.”
In the process, Satyaprem Ki Katha has scored the fifth largest advance booking this year after Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (5.56 lakh), Prabhas-starrer Adipurush (2.85 lakh), Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar (73,000) and Salman Khan-starrer Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (55,000). While Pathaan and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar managed to sustain the momentum with positive word of mouth, Adipurush and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan failed to pass the crucial Monday test and whimpered at the box office. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, in fact, released on the occasion of Eid as well, earlier this year.
Future competition
Satyaprem Ki Katha is most likely to enjoy at least a two-week run, owing to lack of competition, if it manages to receive a positive word of mouth. The film will face only slight competition from Anu Menon’s murder mystery Neeyat, starring Vidya Balan in her first post-pandemic theatrical release, next Friday on July 7.
