Samsung: Samsung is launching ‘News’, will replace this legacy app – Times of India
Samsung News app availability
Samsung said that the app is being launched in beta and will be rolled out to Samsung Galaxy devices in the US. The app replaces the current ‘Samsung Free’ app. This means that users who have Samsung Free on their devices currently will see the icon change to Samsung News in the next few days. All other users will be able to access the Samsung News app by downloading it from the Samsung Galaxy Store.
The Samsung News app will be available on select phones and it will roll out to all addressable devices in the coming weeks. The company, however, has not given any details of these select devices.
How Samsung News is different from Samsung Free
While the Samsung Free app offers news articles, podcasts, live TV and games, the rebranded Samsung News will get only news and podcasts, just like Apple News.
Samsung News app features
Samsung News app will deliver morning and evening briefings. With custom feeds, users can get the daily news they want from Samsung News.
“We created Samsung News to deliver breaking and premium news to Galaxy users in an easy to access format. Our goal is to support users by letting them curate their ideal news experience,” said Avner Ronen, VP of Product Development at Samsung Electronics.
Samsung News app partners
The South Korean company announced that it is partnering with Bloomberg Media, CNN, Fortune, Fox News, Glamour, GQ, HuffPost, Money, Newsweek, New York Post, Parade, POLITICO, Refinery29, Reuters, Salon, Slate, Sports Illustrated, The Daily Beast, TheStreet, USA TODAY and Vice for news content on Samsung News app.
“Additional news sources will be added to the app over time through Samsung’s syndication partner, upday,” the company noted.
How to find news on Samsung News app
Samsung is providing three ways to explore news on the app:
Daily Briefings: The app will deliver briefings twice a day in the form of Morning Briefing and Evening Briefing. The company said that it is working with a team of “experienced news editors” to bring users the top headlines of the day.
News Feeds: Users can also view a feed of news from Samsung’s partners, categorised and organised for easy access. There will be a “Following” tab wherein users can update their preferences to customise the news they want to see.
Podcasts: Samsung News will also provide podcasts so that users can listen to news directly within the app.
