Ruckus in house forces Maharashtra Governor to leave abruptly

0
Maharashtra witnessed stormy scenes with Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari abruptly cutting short his address to the state legislature amidst slogan shouting by both the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. The Congress said the Governor’s conduct was not becoming of his office and he should be ‘recalled’ by the Centre.

The commotion began as soon as the Governor started addressing the state assembly. The MVA leaders began shouting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki jai while BJP leaders sought minister Nawab Malik’s resignation. Within a minute of the sloganeering, the Governor stopped his speech and left the House, leaving everyone stunned, as such a thing had not occurred before in Maharashtra.

State NCP president Jayant Patil said, “Such a thing has never happened in the state’s legislative history. Due to BJP’s indisciplined sloganeering, the Governor left without completing his speech.”

He added the Governor did not even bother to wait for the National anthem to be played.

State Congress chief Nana Patole said the party is looking at tabling a resolution seeking recall the Governor by the President. “He is behaving more like a BJP leader than a Governor; if he wants to continue as the Governor then he needs to stop working as a BJP leader, ” said Patole
