Revealed: President Droupadi Murmu Eats Only Sattvik Food – Here Are Her Favourite Dishes

President Droupadi Murmu celebrated her birthday yesterday (20 June). To mark the occasion, NDTV put together special videos, including the President’s journey from childhood to the present, an interview with her daughter as well as exclusive visuals from inside her home – Rashtrapti Bhavan (Watch the full video here). One of the things that interested us the most was the sneak peek we got into the family kitchen of the Presidential residence. Not only did we get to see what it looks like, but we also got to learn a little bit about the President’s food habits.
President Murmu consumes Sattvik food, which is prepared without onion or garlic. She doesn’t eat non-vegetarian food at all. In the video, Sanjay Kumar, senior cook at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Kitchen explains that the President prefers simple vegetarian food only. She has no special instructions or specifications for those in the kitchen, beyond the requirement of being served Sattvik food.

For breakfast, the President reportedly savours dishes like oats, puris with aloo sabzi and rice cheela. The cook explained that they also make the President’s favourite delicacies from Odisha, her home state. She especially enjoys dalma (a curry-like preparation of vegetables and chickpeas) andsanthula(a popular mixed vegetable dish). Sometimes she may have a special request to make one of her preferred dishes. The President’s simple diet seems to be a reflection of her humble background as well as her efforts to ensure more inclusivity in governance. Watch the full video below:

The President gave us a glimpse into her birthday celebrations on social media. On Instagram, she thanked everyone for their wishes and added that she began her day by visiting the temple of Lord Jagannath. She later spent some time interacting with differently-abled children at a charitable trust in New Delhi.
