Ram Gopal Varma on Ranveer Singh’s photoshoot: ‘If women can show off their sexy bodies why can’t men?’

Ram Gopal Varma has said that Ranveer Singh’s latest photoshoot is perhaps an attempt to seek gender equality, adding that if “women show off their sexy bodies, why can’t men?” Ram Gopal Varma was responding to the recent photo shoot that Ranveer did and has been the topic of discussion for some time now. Ranveer posed naked for a photo shoot for Paper magazine and shared the pictures on social media last week. The actor posed on a Turkish rug, wearing nothing in most pictures. While many industry colleagues and friends have lauded Ranveer for the nude photoshoot, he is also being trolled for the same. He now faces police complaints regarding the photoshoot.

“(I) think it’s his way of demanding justice for gender equality. If women can show off their sexy bodies why can’t men? It’s hypocritical that men are judged by a different standard. Men should have as many equal rights as women,” RGV told ETimes.

Earlier this week, two applications were filed with Mumbai Police seeking the registration of an FIR against Ranveer for “hurting sentiments of women” through his nude photographs on social media. The complaint applications were submitted separately at the Chembur police station by an office-bearer of a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), also based in the east Mumbai suburb; and a woman lawyer.

The application filed by the lawyer demanded a case against Ranveer on the charge of intent to outrage the modesty of women. “We received applications from a person associated with an NGO and a woman lawyer on Monday in this matter. No FIR is registered so far. We are enquiring,” a official told PTI.

Ranveer recently appeared in the Netflix interactive special Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls and now has a few projects lined up. These include Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus alongside Jacqueline Fernandes and Pooja Hegde and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. Cirkus is likely to release by year end and is said to be an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. Ranveer reunites with his Gully Boy co-star Alia Bhatt for Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani which also stars Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan.
