Popularly known as the Bhajan Samrat, Anup Jalota is making headlines for his latest song Bhagwan Mere Bhagwan. Here’s a candid chat with the singer

What is your new song Bhagwan Mere Bhagwan all about?

One of my students, Satyam Anandjee, made this beautiful song and asked me to sing. When I heard the song, I told him to include other singers as well. The song needs to reach as many listeners as possible. So, singers like Sudesh Bhosale, Madhushree and Soma Ghosh have also lent their voices. The song is summoning God to bring some peace amidst these turbulent Covid times. The song is a universal prayer. It is dedicated to all Gods and Goddesses.

Do you also feel your career graph has changed a bit after Bigg Boss?

I would say it has changed for the better. There are a lot more variations now. I have also started working as an actor and worked in Pataal Lok as well as Sai Baba. The image which an actor has is always given by people. They are the one who gave me the title of ‘Bhajan Samrat’ and when they liked my acting, they stated that as well.

Do you feel a biopic should be made on your life?

There are offers and I have been approached. But nothing has been decided, I feel this is just an interval of my life. The second half is going to be very interesting.

There are more remixes and remakes in films these days. What is your take on that?

Remixes and remakes are okay if the original melody has been retained nicely. There are songs which have been remixed in a nice way and I have liked them.

Would you like to judge a reality show?

I don’t go in that zone much. I have seen in recent times the significance if judges are not that great! After public voting, things have changed. If I get something where my judging decision will be valuable, I will certainly go for it. I am not against any reality show.

How are you keeping yourself positive during the pandemic?

Before the lockdown, there were thousands of people who used to come for my concerts. After the lockdown, many people have started following me because I am attached to them through social media. And this connectivity gives me a lot of positivity.

What is the solution for all the musicians who are not working?

Virtual shows are the solution.

Any one singer you have heard recently and liked?

I have liked Pratibha Baghel’s singing style a lot, and I am hoping she will be doing some great work.
