pixel: Pixel 7 series may get a third variant: Reports – Times of India

0
Google held its developer meet, I/O 2022 earlier this month and teased the next Pixel series at the conference. The tech giant teased two smartphones — the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro to be part of the Pixel 7 series. However, a new report suggests that another, more premium model will be added to the upcoming lineup. 9to5Google has reported a discovery about a display driver tagged with “G10” that they found in the Android Open Source Project code. Earlier, there were reports about the Pixel 7 having a “C10” tag (codenamed Cheetah) and the Pixel 7 Pro a “P10” tag (codenamed Panther). Now, the new report suggests that the 2022 Pixel generation will have additional codenames for other devices — Felix and Lynx. The report claims that these new devices could be the Pixel 7a and a new variant of the Pixel Notepad foldable that is likely to run on 2nd-gen Tensor hardware.
Apart from the new “C10” and “P10” displays, Google is also working on a “completely different display,” which is tagged “G10.” The report also mentions that none of the Pixel-related codenames that have been uncovered before has started with the letter “G”. However, the report claimed that the G10 device is expected to run on Android and is likely to be powered by a Tensor chip, which hints at a Pixel device.
Pixel 7-series new phone expected specs
The report suggests that the G10 device might not be a Pixel A-series device as the display is expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate like the Pixel 6 Pro. Moreover, Google might even ask BOE and not Samsung to produce these displays, claims the report. BOE is a Chinese display OEM that Apple uses at times.
Apart from the refresh rate, the G10 displays have other core specs that are common with the Pixel 6 Pro, which include — a 1440×3120 resolution and a 71x155mm physical size. As per the report, the chances of this device being the Pixel tablet (scheduled to release in 2023) are also eliminated by the resolution and size of the display. The report also mentions that how a high-end device like G10 would fit into the ‘Made by Google’ series is still ‘mysterious’.
