Oppo has launched the Reno 10 Series of smartphones in India recently. The series includes Oppo Reno 10 5G, Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G, and Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus 5G. All three smartphones come with a stylish design and top-of-the-line camera setup. While we have already talked about Oppo Reno 10 Pro & Reno 10 Pro Plus in detail, we will now share our experiences about the base model- Oppo Reno 10 5G.

The Oppo Reno 10 5G looks good on paper as the smartphone is powered by Dimensity 7050 chipset, along with 256GB storage, 32MP telephoto portrait lens, 5000mAh, and 67W fast charging. While it looks decent enough on paper, is it capable of withstanding the competition around? To find out the answer to this question, we used the Reno 10 5G as a primary device for a few days, and here is what we felt.

Oppo Reno 10 5G Review: Design

One of the main USPs of every Oppo smartphone is its stylish design. The same holds true for the recently launched Oppo Reno 10 Series as all three smartphones have a unique design language. While we have already talked about Oppo Reno 10 Pro & Oppo Reno 10 Pro Plus 5G, it is time to talk about the design of the vanilla Oppo Reno 10 5G model. Oppo Reno 10 5G has a stunning Oppo Glow design that is available in 2 colors- Silvery Grey and Ice Blue.

For review, I received the Ice Blue color variant which looked gorgeous from a distance. The smartphone has a microscopic crystal structure and a matte effect for the back panel that gives it a soft appearance. The back panel is smooth to touch, but not slippery so I wasn’t worried about it falling out of my hands. The back panel looks even more gorgeous when sunlight falls on it as it scatters into different hues.

The back panel has Oppo branding on the bottom and a two-part camera module on the top. The upper half of the module has a CD-like pattern that houses the main sensor. The lower half houses the telephoto and wide-angle lenses. There is an LED flash as well. The entire module protrudes a bit so expect the device to wobble when kept on a flat surface.

The edges are glossy and curved from the sides which ensures that the in-hand grip of the smartphone is sturdy. The right edge houses the power button as well as the volume rocker while the left side is left vacant. The bottom edge consists of a USB Type-C port, microphone, speaker grille, and SIM tray while the top edge has an IR blaster and secondary microphone for noise cancellation. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack which is a disappointment for those who still love listening to music the old-school way.

The Oppo Reno 10 5G feels sleek and lightweight in hand due to its 7.99mm thickness and weight of 185 grams. Not only does it feel good, but the smartphone has a stylish design that has the ability to flaunt your style.

Oppo Reno 10 5G Review: Display

The Oppo Reno 10 5G sports a 6.7-inch Curved-edge AMOLED display that produces stunning visuals. The visuals are rich, lifelike, vibrant, and color accurate. The dynamic range is decent while the viewing angles during content consumption are impressive as well. Ultra-high 120Hz refresh rate gives a buttery smooth scrolling experience while reading, gaming, or social media browsing. HDR10+ support is also available. The display comes with 950 nits maximum brightness which is fine indoors, but in outdoor conditions, the screen is not clearly visible so a higher brightness level would have been more favorable. The in-display fingerprint sensor is responsive and quick.

Oppo Reno 10 5G Review: Camera

The camera is one of the USPs of the Oppo Reno Series and this time too the brand has tried to take the photography experience on the Oppo Reno 10 Series to the next level. Oppo Reno 10 5G features a triple camera setup at the back including a 64MP primary sensor, a 32MP telephoto portrait camera, and an 8MP ultrawide sensor.

In broad daylight, the 64MP primary camera has good shots with just the right amount of detail. But hey, it’s not without its little quirks! Sometimes, when the sky’s feeling a bit extra, the camera might go overboard and blow out certain areas like a zany fireworks show. It tends to get a tad overexcited and overprocess the images in certain conditions. Similar performance can be observed when we clicked under the shade, the Reno 10 camera does well as it captures decent details, having said that it couldn’t resist sprinkling some extra color magic making shorts look slightly oversaturated.

The night mode usually delivers better-quality night shots compared to the regular photo mode, but that wasn’t always the case with the Reno10 5G. More often than not, images captured using Night mode turned out to be far less detailed and a lot more hazy. Suffice it to say that the Reno10 5G won’t be a perfect camera phone if you prefer to pictures in low light conditions.

The 8MP wide-angle lens covers a good Field of View and though details are nowhere close to the primary sensor, they work just fine. In the shot on the left below, the shapes formed by clouds in the evening sky are crystal clear, while in the shot on the right, every detail is accurately captured.

The most talked about camera is the 32MP telephoto portrait lens that captures top-notch images in indoor and outdoor conditions. Look at the indoor plant below. The green of the images looks rich and contrasts well against the white of the pebbles in the pot, that too in low-light surroundings. The portrait mode has good edge detection and the bokeh effect is decent as well.

There is a 32MP selfie camera at the front. Although it clicks good selfies in daylight with the focus being on the subject in the frame and much detail, the skin tones don’t seem natural. The selfies look too bright and my face looked extra white which it actually isn’t. This makes the photos look artificial and people like me surely won’t like the use of these pre-applied beauty filters. It might work for those who need Instagram-worthy clicks, but otherwise, this should be toned down in the upcoming updates.

Oppo Reno 10 5G Review: Performance

The Oppo Reno 10 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB onboard storage. The Dimensity 7050 is a high-performance SoC and it lives up to its name as the Reno 10 5G is fast and efficient. Everyday tasks like calling, social media browsing, watching content and more can be carried out seamlessly. The octa-core chipset even performs intensive tasks like gaming with ease. 8GB RAM ensures apps load quickly and run well. There were no lags or stutters of any kind even while playing videos in picture-in-picture mode. 256GB storage allows you to store an ample amount of photos, videos, audio, documents, and more. RAM expansion is available up to 8GB thus taking the total RAM to 16GB.

In terms of gaming on the Oppo Reno 10 5G, heavy games like BGMI can run up to Ultra Framerate with HDR graphics. At extreme framerate as well, it can run with smooth graphics settings. The only issue arises with the thermal performance as the device starts warming up around the camera module after 25 minutes of gaming and during benchmark tests. Benchmark test results are enclosed below.

Let’s talk about the software now. Oppo Reno 10 5G runs ColorOS 13.1 based on Android 13 which provides an efficient and easy to use day to day experience. The theme store allows you to change the look of your device by offering various themes that are free to use. There are options for customization and personalization along with features like Clone Phone, DocVault, IR Remote, O-Roaming, O-Relax, and Zen space in-built. The biggest issue is loads of bloatware that comes pre-installed. This includes apps like PhonePe, Moj, Netflix, Amazon, and Josh. Although the apps can be uninstalled if not needed but filing up a 30k device with so much bloatware seems really unnecessary.

The calling experience was decent and connectivity options include 5G, 4G, Bluetooth 5.3, WiFi 6, dual Nano SIM, NFC, WLAN, and more.

Oppo Reno 10 5G Review: Battery

The Oppo Reno 10 5G packs a 5000mAh battery under the hood. The battery easily lasted an entire day during which my usage included calling, zoom meetings, social media browsing, content consumption, listening to music, and playing light games. At the end of the day, the smartphone still had around 26% battery remaining, which is decent.

To save charging time, Oppo has bundled a 67W adapter inside the box. The adapter charged the device from 0 to 100% in about 51 minutes which is good. If you need to step out and don’t have much time, then the 67W adapter will charge up to 50% in about 24 minutes. All in all, the Reno 10 5G has a good battery life and decent charging capability.

Oppo Reno 10 5G Review Verdict: Should you buy it?

The Oppo Reno 10 5G presents a sleek and premium mid-range offering, boasting a plethora of impressive features, including an AMOLED display, elegant design, a substantial 5000mAh battery, and ample storage capacity. While these attributes certainly contribute to its appeal, the device does have a few minor concerns, such as the presence of pre-installed bloatware and subpar thermal performance, which may prompt users to explore alternative options within the competition.

Despite these considerations, individuals heavily invested in content consumption might find the Reno 10 5G a compelling choice. Its vibrant display and spacious storage capacity create an immersive experience for multimedia enthusiasts, adding to its appeal.
