OnePlus Featuring Keyboard 81 Pro launched with aluminium build and hot-swappable keycaps – Times of India
OnePlus has unveiled its first-ever mechanical keyboard, the OnePlus Featuring Keyboard 81 Pro, teased way back in December 2022. The Keyboard 81 Pro is the first-ever mechanical keyboard of the company, which comes with an aluminium build, hot-swappable key caps, and OnePlus co-created switches.
The mechanical keyboard is the first device of OnePlus’ new “co-creation” Featuring program. With the OnePlus Featuring, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer plans to expand its offering beyond by partnering with other brands and co-creating new products with them and the community.
For the Keyboard 81 Pro, OnePlus partnered with the keyboard manufacturer Keychron to create the layout for the macOS since the company specialises in it. The Keychron also lent its connectivity protocol, which makes it compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux.
OnePlus Featuring Keyboard 81 Pro to go on sale in April
For starters, the OnePlus Featuring Keyboard 81 Pro is essentially the Keychron Q1 Pro, which also has 81 keys. But OnePlus has painted the Keyboard 81 Pro in its red and white accent, having a CNC-machined aluminium casing, a knob, and the iconic alert slider from the OnePlus phones.
The Keyboard 81 Pro has what OnePlus calls marble-mellow keycaps, with extended keystroke lifespan and better tactile feedback, promising to make typing faster and smoother. Also, these are hot-swappable keycaps, meaning you can pluck them out for a different one.
In a first, OnePlus says it has created switches for its users, which as per the company, are optimised for most intense demanding scenarios with a tactile peak point of 0.5mm. There are two switch options – the “Winter Bonfire,” which is the most tactile one, and the “Summer Breeze,” the quieter one.
The 81 Pro mechanical keyboard has customisable RGB lighting. Further, the keyboard supports open-source firmware like QMK and VIA, allowing users to remap keys and customise RGB effects without reflashing the firmware.
The keyboard offers Bluetooth 5.1 and USB-C connectivity. Powering the keyboard is a 4000mAh battery, which should last 100 hours with RGB on.
