No physical buttons on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 to have under-display Face ID: Report

On Twitter, Kuo said that the volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro would be made of solid-state components. He also mentioned that other high-end devices might follow suit in the future if this change is well received. This pretty much falls in line with earlier rumours that the iPhone 15 Pro models would come without physical buttons, but this the first time the noted Apple analyst has affirmed these reports.

Kuo had previously said that the iPhone 15 Pro models would have two more Taptic Engines that would give haptic feedback when the buttons are pressed without the buttons moving. This would be like the solid-state Home button on the iPhone 7 or the Force Touch trackpad on recent MacBooks. On Twitter, the analyst said that Cirrus Logic, which makes the chips for iPhones’ Taptic Engines, will benefit from the change.

“As the exclusive supplier of Taptic Engine’s controller IC for solid-state buttons, Cirrus Logic stands to benefit markedly from this new design. If users respond well to this new design, I think it may be adopted in other high-end models of product lines in the future,” the analyst wrote.

Meanwhile, Apple will most likely launch four new iPhones under the iPhone 15 series, which includes iPhone 15iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which might also be renamed to iPhone 15 Ultra.

iPhone 16 Pro under-display Face ID sensors

The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro, which is set to come out next year, is said to have under-display Face ID technology to make the display area more usable. The Elec reports that by 2024, the tech giant will place the parts needed for Face ID authentication directly under the iPhone’s display. The TrueDepth camera for Face ID won’t be visible underneath the display when it’s not in use; instead, it will appear seamlessly integrated with the surrounding screen area.

The front-facing camera hole will still be present on the iPhone 16 Pro, according to the report, but there will be an increase in the size of the overall display and immersion. It also stated that since under-display technology is still under development, the display cutouts from the iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 15 Pro will not change.
