NAB technical glitch leaves people without pay
A payment systems error at National Australian Bank has left many Australians without their pay in the middle of silly season, with the glitch affecting customers at ING, Bank of Queensland, Tyro Payments and Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
NAB confirmed the issue had been resolved on Friday, with most outstanding payments being processed and the bank still investigating the root cause of the issue.
“We are aware of some customers who made payments to other banks that have been delayed. All delayed payments up to and including 28 December have now been processed by NAB. However, they may be some payments still being processed by other banks”.
ING confirmed there had been a glitch in the payment chain, which meant it had not received some payments this week and was unable to process them until the outstanding payments were received on Friday morning.
“We can now confirm that payments that were not sent to ING have now been delivered and processed. We ask impacted customers to please check their account. We have had confirmation from another institution that there was a technical issue at their end which resulted in us and other institutions not receiving the payments.”
It’s not yet clear how many customers are affected, but hundreds have taken to social media to complain about missed payments, with some having to cancel holidays, miss mortgage payments and others facing late payment fees on other loans.
One customer due to undergo a round of chemotherapy next week took to Facebook to say they will not be able to afford their medication, petrol or the hospital parking fees if the issue was not resolved urgently.
“When I had to cancel a two-day trip I was supposed to take because I couldn’t make the final payment due to this issue, that was fine. This stuff happens. When I realised I couldn’t get the deposit back from the said trip, that was fine also… On the 4th of January I have an appointment with the Monash Hospital to undergo my next round of chemotherapy. This is a 2.5 hour round trip which I can no longer afford the petrol for, I will need to pay the hospital parking fees, which I can no longer do and also pay for medication, which I also can no longer afford,” the customer said.
