Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute trauma care centre to start treating patients soon

Mysuru: The state government has sanctioned 220 posts for the newly constructed trauma care centre located on KRS Road in Mysuru. The hospital will be open to the public soon.

The trauma care centre, attached to the Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI), was inaugurated long ago but had not become functional for want of medical equipment and manpower.

Last year, when Mysuru was in the grip of a serious Covid crisis, the authorities used the facility for Covid treatment.

The casualty wing at Krishna Rajendra (KR) Hospital attached to MMCRI was recording nearly 1,500 accident victims daily among 2,000 outpatients. Hence the state government had sanctioned this Rs 30 crore centre to Mysuru to deal with road accident victims of Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Madikeri and other surrounding districts.

The centre was built across 80 acres of PKTB Sanatorium campus, on Krishnarja Sagar (KRS) Road as a number of government run hospitals came up on this stretch. The new trauma care centre can house up to 135 patients, and extend all necessary healthcare services. Patients can avail of, among others, facilities such as CT scan, MRI, et al. The centre will also be equipped with an intensive care unit (ICU).

MMCRI dean and director Dr KM Drakshayini told the media agency that the state government has sanctioned the required 220 posts including medical, paramedical, nursing and D Group employees for management of the centre after giving necessary cabinet and financial approval. The department of medical education will soon start recruitment and the trauma care centre will start functioning shortly, she said.
