MSC Baseball Opening Round Recap Day One

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Mid-South Conference baseball opening round got underway on Wednesday.

No. 6 seed Georgetown (26-20) punched its ticket to Bowling Green for the double elimination tournament with two victories over No. 7 seed Campbellsville (21-26).

Game 1: Georgetown 6 Campbellsville 3

Jorge Gonzalez gave Campbellsville a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI-single. Georgetown tied the game in the home half of the second with a solo home run from Hank Schineller.

Georgetown added to its lead scoring three runs in the third with two RBIs from Nick Lopez and one from Jarrett Chapman. Payton Rios gave Georgetown a 6-1 lead in the fifth with a two-RBI double. Campbellsville hit a solo home run in the sixth and one in the eighth to make it 6-3.

Game 2: Georgetown 8 Campbellsville 4

Box Score

Georgetown got off to a fast start in the second game scoring four runs in the first two innings propelled by a two-run home run by Rios. Campbellsville cut into the Georgetown lead scoring a pair of runs in the third.

Georgetown pulled away in the fifth inning scoring four runs to increase its lead to 8-2. Campbellsville was able to score two runs in the top of the sixth to trim its deficit to 8-4.
