Microsoft Teams users now have access to Designer, an AI-powered art-generating tool that can create designs for presentations, posters, digital postcards, and other materials within the video-conferencing app itself.
Available in preview on Windows 11, Designer is similar to Canva and allows users to input text prompts or upload images to generate unique designs. The tool uses OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 text-to-image AI, providing users with drop-down menus and text boxes for customization and personalization.
“By describing your idea’s vision in words or utilising an uploaded image, you can create captivating one-of-a-kind visuals,” wrote Microsoft in the announcement blog. “Simply create an announcement post in communities to design your own banner with Designer.”
Microsoft’s Designer, first announced last year in October, can also be accessed through the web or sidebar in the Edge browser. Later, Microsoft added new features such as caption generation and animated visuals.
Microsoft aims to cash in from Designer by offering it through their Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions. However, the company has not revealed the exact pricing for this yet. They have confirmed that some features of the tool will be available for free, but it is unclear which ones.
Community channels for Teams on Windows and update for GroupMe
Microsoft Teams has also added community channels for group-wide communication and management under a single channel, similar to Discord.
The feature was initially launched for Android and iOS users in December, and now it’s available for Windows 11 Teams users, with support for other platforms coming soon.
Users can find and join communities based on specific topics like gardening or running from the Home tab on Teams. Community members can use their mobile devices to create and share videos with new markup and filter options.
Lastly, with GroupMe, Microsoft’s free group messaging app, users can now make Teams calls right from within a new or existing group chat.
