Last year, MediaTek brought its first true rival to Snapdragon’s top dog – the Dimensity 9000 – taking on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.. Now, the silicon maker has refreshed its flagship chipset and added a ‘+’ in its moniker. The Dimensity 9000+ brings a few minor improvements compared to the former, which seems to compete with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset.
Dimensity 9000+ offers a 5 percent clock speed boost and 10 percent improvement in graphics performance over the 9000
The new refreshed Dimensity 9000+ chipset offers a clock speed bump on the Cortex-X2 core, which now runs at 3.2GHz compared to 3.05GHz on Dimensity 9000. The chipset is still fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm process node and offers a 1+3+4 core configuration with a prime Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex-A710 cores and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores clocked. The chipset comes with the Mali-G710 graphics unit, which promises to offer a 10 per cent improvement in graphics performance over its predecessor. Further, the chip comes with an integrated 5G modem offering a peak speed of 7GBps; however, it lacks support for mmWave, and the chipset also incorporates a fifth-gen APU for machine learning tasks. Further, the chipset brings support for a 144Hz refresh rate at WQHD+ resolution, 180Hz refresh rate at FHD+ resolution, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3.
The new Imagiq 790 ISP can record 18-bit videos from three cameras simultaneously
Mediatek’s new Dimensity 9000+ comes with an improved Imagiq 790 Image Signal Processor (ISP) which supports 18-bit video recording from three cameras at the same time. The Imagiq 790 supports still images up to 320MP, AV1 recording, and can process 9 gigapixels per second. Furthermore, the ISP has support for 4K HDR video recording upto 60fps and 8K recording up to 24fps with AI noise cancellation.
Whats’ the difference between Dimensity 9000+ and Dimensity 9000?
The Dimensity 9000+ does not bring any major improvement over the last year’s Dimensity 9000+ but Mediatek says it improves the power efficiency. Meanwhile, it also offers a 5 percent higher clock speed and 10 percent improvement in graphics performance. And the new Imagiq 790 ISP brings support for recording 18-bit videos from three cameras simultaneously. Rest all the features remain the same as the Dimensity 9000.
Mediatek says that the smartphones with the new Dimensity 9000+ will start coming out in the third quarter of 2022. We expect Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and other Chinese manufacturers to introduce Dimensity 9000+ smartphones as they all have launched Dimensity 9000-powered flagships earlier this year.
