As a brand, MediaTek has been firing on all cylinders. Not only is it ensuring that the smartphones are ready for the soon-to-be-launched 5G networks with its Dimensity series, but it’s also enabling smartphone makers to offer devices across different price points. We’ve already talked about the top-of-the-line MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC, and now, let’s shed light on the recently announced Dimensity 1300 chipset. The successor to the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor boasts powerful features. Here’s why you should be excited about the smartphones equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 1300.

Serious processing power

With a tri-core architecture, the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 promises a perfect harmony between raw power and battery efficiency. It comes with one ARM Cortex-A78 ultra core which is clocked at 3GHz, and is accompanied by three super Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.6GHz. For usual tasks, the SoC turns to four efficiency Cortex-A55 cores that can go up to 2GHz. And when you combine this architecture with TSMC N6 (6nm fabrication) process, Dimensity 1300 should ensure impressive endurance.

Along with impressive processing abilities, the SoC also scores high in the gaming department with a nine-core ARM Mali-G77 MC9 graphics engine. The powerful GPU should ensure that there are no frame drops and the graphics are rendered smoothly.

Enhanced gaming capabilities

In addition to the capable graphics processor, MediaTek Dimensity 1300 also comes with the famed Mediatek HyperEngine technology. The chipset offers the same iteration as the higher-end Dimensity 8000 series and flagship Dimensity 9000. With HyperEngine 5.0, the SoC gets a slew of gaming-related refinements such as AI-powered VRS (variable rate shading) to offer better rendering without compromising the battery life.

The tech also features several networking features, like Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Hybrid 2.0 that utilises both Wi-Fi antennas to combine with Bluetooth frequency, allowing superior Wi-Fi performance even while Bluetooth headphone or gamepad is connected. MediaTek claims that this brings down the Wi-Fi latency by up to 68 percent.

Improved imaging performance

Thanks to its Imagiq ISP, MediaTek has been making huge strides in terms of camera performance. The chipmaker’s latest offering – Dimensity 1300 – is no different. Its 5-core image signal processor supports a single-camera resolution of up to 200-megapixels. With the six-core MediaTek APU 3.0, the camera also offers several AI-based enhancements. These include improved low-light photography and HDR capabilities and the ability to capture 4K HDR videos using three-exposure fusion that promises to deliver a 40 percent higher dynamic range as compared to normal 4K HDR recording.

Other AI functionality in the camera department includes the ability to capture multi-person bokeh in videos, and focusing on multiple depth points in the video.

Enjoyable visuals

The MediaTek Dimensity 1300 processor supports high refresh rate displays, giving users a lag-free experience while playing games or scrolling through web pages. Smartphones equipped with the SoC can boast a maximum resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels with a refresh rate of up to 168Hz.

With MediaTek MiraVision technology, the chipset also offers enhanced video playback with HDR10+ compatibility. There’s also hardware accelerated AV1 decoding that lets one watch content in 4k resolution on OTT services without consuming too much power.

No compromises on connectivity

As mentioned in the introduction, MediaTek has been leading from the front when it comes to supporting the next-gen cellular network. To that end, MediaTek Dimensity 1300 features 2CC Carrier Aggregation functionality. This will allow the devices powered by the chipset to offer better 5G connectivity and higher peak rates. Like other offerings in the Dimensity series, the chipset also offers dual 5G SIM compatibility with its 5G modem as well as support for VoNR (Voice over New Radio). Furthermore, the SoC comes with MediaTek 5G UltraSave offering excellent power-saving enhancements. Promising enhanced connectivity, there’s support for ‘5G Elevator Mode’ and ‘5G HSR Mode’ that ensure that users get quick recovery time while emerging from dead zones or sustained performance while travelling.

Apart from the cellular connectivity, MediaTek Dimensity 1300 also supports the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity standards.

That’s not it. The new MediaTek Dimensity 1300 processor also allows OEMs to unlock the SoC’s capabilities thanks to the support for Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture. This program gives OEMs closer-to-metal access, letting them finetune capabilities such as imaging or AI functionality. Considering brands like OnePlus and Vivo have harnessed the capabilities of MediaTek chipsets for their offerings, it’d be interesting to see how phonemakers utilise it for MediaTek Dimensity 1300 which brings forth an all-round package. In sum, the new MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset scores high on all the aspects, right from raw performance to imaging prowess and from immersive visuals to the latest connectivity standards… while promising excellent battery efficiency.
