Indian Air Force inducts 12 Tata Nexon EVs into their fleet

It was earlier reported that the Indian Army, the largest wing of the Indian Armed Forces, is looking to procure a batch of EVs for operations in select units and formations. This comes as the Indian Government pushes toward sustainable mobility across the board. 

IAF inducts 12 Tata Nexon EVs into its fleet

Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari of the Indian Air Force flagged off the newly procured batch of 12 Tata Nexon EV sub-compact EV SUVs. The air-based defense division of the Indian Armed Forces is looking to convert a certain chunk of their existing ICE-based fleet to EVs in the near future. The plan includes buses and cars that operate under the IAF.

The IAF aims at reducing its carbon footprint and adopting sustainable mobility solutions such as EVs. This comes at a time when the Indian Government is powering forward for encouraging people to shift towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility options. The IAF also plans to back up the shift from ICE to electric by setting up charging infrastructure at various IAF bases. The procurement of new EVs will take place in a phased manner with certain select outfits being upgraded first. As much as 25 percent of light vehicles, 38 percent buses and 48 percent motorcycles will be replaced with EVs in select units. 

For now, the 12 Tata Nexon EVs will do duty in the capital city and will operate from their home depot at Vayu Bhawan, IAF Delhi Headquarters.
