NEW DELHI: Both MCD and NDMC are stepping up Covid arrangements at their hospitals, including setting up flu clinics, testing facilities, engaging mobile vans for testing in busy areas, and maintaining adequate stocks of essential medicines and equipment. They are also promoting booster vaccination for both hospital staff and patients.
“We have issued detailed guidelines at Charak Palika Hospital to strictly follow Covid protocols such as maintaining social distance, wearing masks. We have started mobile testing facilities as and when demands are raised by government offices, ministries and government accommodations. At the hospital, RTPCR testing has started for the public,” said Satish Upadhyay, vice-chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council.
“Though the number of cases is less, we have issued directions to hospital staff to connect the Covid-positive patients to neighbouring dispensaries for doctor consultation, pulse reading etc. We have also tied up with LNJP Hospital, and if required, we will shift patients there,” said Upadhyay.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials said a medical oxygen-generating PSA plant, oxygen cylinders, medical equipment, flu clinics and other facilities were already in place. “We have started RTPCR testing for up to 50 patients per day at Hindu Rao Hospital and aim to raise it to 200. The medical superintendent has written to Delhi government for the kits. The testing facility can run in two shifts. However, the footfall is not high at the flu clinics or the testing facility yet,” said an official.
In March-end, MCD advised hospitals and healthcare units to strictly follow Covid-appropriate norms. The advisory stated that all health units should ensure screening of patients with fever and send those suspected to have Covid-19 for testing. Besides appointing a nodal officer for supervising arrangements and ensuring sanitisation, the units were also asked to maintain adequate stocks of essential medicines, items like PPE kits, masks, gloves, sanitisers and pulse oximeters, make arrangements for oxygen supply and keep the PSA oxygen plant functional.
“Our hospitals are fully equipped with facilities. All blood tests such as RTPCR and antigen tests are also being provided,” mayor Shelly Oberoi said after inspecting the preparations at Hindu Roa Hospital last week.
