HT Exclusive Shoot | Gurmeet-Debina’s Dilli Darshan: We have to work but with Covid-19 precautions
Actors Gurmeet Choudhary and wife Debina Bonnerjee were recently in Delhi-NCR for a professional commitment. And even if the visit was for a single day, the couple took back some good memories, especially because they enjoyed some sense of normalcy amid the pandemic. They also did a special photoshoot with HT City, following all Covid-19 precautions.
Choudhary says they had to be very careful while making the trip. “Kaam bhi karna hai, par dhyaan rakhte huye. The funda is clear: wear a mask, keep washing your hands and go out for work. Some fear should be there, you’re stable because of it because sometimes, in the absence of this fear, problems crop up,” he explains.
For Bonnerjee, there’s a sense of paranoia due to Covid-19, also because one keeps hearing how the situation is not any better. The 38-year-old tells us, “Door se sunne mein aata hai ki bauhaut zyaada cases ho rahe hain. But when we reached Delhi, we felt everybody is following the rules, wearing masks, everything is fine. The way they show in the news, it’s not that scary. It was comfortable.”
Adjacent to the Gurugram hotel they were staying in is a mall, and Bonnerjee couldn’t contain her excitement as we took the duo for a stroll there.
Gurmeet tells us, “We got emotional because in Mumbai, where we stay, malls have been shut for some time. In Delhi, there were many people in the mall, all wearing masks, so one gets the confidence that you are safe. Debina pagal ho gayi thi shopping ke naam se bas!”
Bonnerjee clarifies and quips, “I didn’t go crazy shopping. I saw a mall after a long time, and we didn’t have to go very far away. I was so happy seeing a mall open. It’s not as if I used to be in malls every day, or I had some two-three shops. Just the sense of normalcy which seems to be back. We were strolling in the mall, toh thodi shopping ho gayi. Prachanad anand hua!”
Choudhary, 37, surprises us when he reveals that while they love the city so much, he has never shot for any of his projects here till date, and promises that he will tell the producers of his next to make sure it happens.
“We love Delhi, hume toh mauka milna chahiye, hum pahaunch jaate hain. The people are so nice, I enjoy talking to them. I follow a strict diet and never chat on it, but in a place like Delhi I don’t think about anything. I reach the hotel, and without even keeping my bags straightaway go to eat! I always tell the producers of my projects that when we start promotions, the first press conference should happen in Delhi,” he ends.
