Here’s why Twitter as a company no longer exists – Times of India
“Twitter, Inc. has been merged into X Corp. and no longer exists. X Corp. is a privately held corporation. Its parent corporation is X Holdings Corp,” the court filing mentioned.
X Holdings Inc. is reported to be an umbrella conglomerate owned by Musk and has companies like Tesla, SpaceX Neuralink, The Boring Company, and now Twitter.
Soon after the report surfaced on the internet, Musk tweeted with a single letter “X”. It is not known what Musk wants to imply with the tweet but it is assumed that it could be a hint about the “X, the everything app”.
Musk’s ‘everything app’
Last year, Musk said that he wants to make an “X everything app” as a part of the company’s Twitter 2.0 roadmap.
“Twitter probably accelerates X by 3 to 5 years, but I could be wrong,” he replied to a user on a tweet thread. “It’s either convert Twitter to that [everything app] or start something new. It does need to happen somehow,” he said previously.
It was reported that this app might look like China’s WeChat, which is used by people for messaging, payments, ridesharing, and food delivery among other services.
“If you’re in China, you kind of live on WeChat. It does everything. It’s sort of like Twitter, plus PayPal, plus a whole bunch of things all rolled into one, with a great interface. It’s really an excellent app, and we don’t have anything like that outside of China,” Musk told the listeners during a podcast last year.
It is to be noted that Musk named his financial services startup X.com, which later spun into PayPal. It could be possible that Musk renames this “X” app sometime in future.
