The excess moisture and sweat can cause dandruff on your scalp which leads to itchy and oily scalp while excessive humidity can make hair poufy and dehydrated hence, deep conditioning is suggested to quench your parched summer hair along with formulas that add moisture and tame frizz since it also fortifies your hair strands and acts as a layer of protection against harsh environmental aggressors. However, Ayurveda experts insist that hair growth and hair health is not something that can merely be achieved through external applications of products like shampoos or oils.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Abhishek Mishra, Ayurvedic Practitioner at Traya Health, shared, “Ayurveda sees hair fall as a symptom of various disturbances occurring in your body. So while treating hair fall, it is necessary to take into account the imbalances of Doshas (energy), as well as Dhatus (tissues). Ayurveda aims at managing the root cause of hair fall with the help of Shamana (pacifying therapy) and Shodhana therapies (purification therapies) along with dietary and lifestyle modifications.”

He added, “On the other hand, the age-old rejuvenation therapy ensures that every Dhatu is replenished to its core to see the desired results in a client experiencing hair fall. Herbs like Brahmi, Shankhapushpi, Bhringraj, Amla, Guduchi, Tapyadi lauh, Yashtimadhu and Shankhabhasma work on targeting the imbalances of Doshas and Dhatus, while also increasing follicle strength and improving overall scalp health.”

According to Dr Rekha Radhamony, 4th-Generation Ayurvedic Doctor, hair growth and hair health is not something that can merely be achieved through external applications of products like shampoos or oils or so Ayurveda suggests. She said, “While it does help to some extent, unless you also focus on correcting internal problems like digestion or gut health for an effective solution. Amla is a very good ingredient to integrate in your day-to-day life for hair growth. If one is not comfortable with eating Amla as it is, one can ingest it in various forms- drink it as an Amla shot with hot water or even mix Amla powder with ghee and have it before lunch. It is bound to show results in hair growth as well as hair quality.”
