Google Meet 360-degree backgrounds for mobile devices: Availability and Importance
Google Meet is expected to roll out these 360-degree backgrounds in the “coming weeks” on Android and iPhones. This feature is likely to be launched for both consumers and paid Workspace users. These backgrounds can come in handy when users have to attend a meeting on the go.
What are 360-degree backgrounds and how will the feature work
The company has explained that the backgrounds are videos that move independently with 360-degree motions. Google Meet’s 360-degree backgrounds feature will access the gyroscope/orientation data of mobile devices to move along with the user. Meet users can select from different backgrounds including an oasis, sky city or mountain temple for their video calls. The company claims that more 360-degree backgrounds are set to arrive in the upcoming days.
These new backgrounds will join the already available set of standard wallpapers, blur effects, video/moving backgrounds, styles (B&W, sepia, etc.) and face filters. Google Meet even enables users to upload their own customised backgrounds.
