Google is reportedly planning to add a new eSIM transfer feature that will make it easier for Android users to transfer their eSIM profiles from one phone to another. Recently, the tech giant rolled out the second version of the Android 13 QPR2 beta update for limited Pixel users. Apart from a few bug fixes, the latest Android 13 update includes hints of some underlying changes. Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 not only brings support for Unicode 15 emoji, but it also includes some code changes that suggest that Google may enable automatically themed icons in the Pixel Launcher (which is expected to arrive in the upcoming days). The update also introduces a new system property that suggests that Android may soon add support for seamless eSIM transfers.
Seamless eSIM transfer feature to Android
Google’s plans to roll out this feature are still unknown as the company hasn’t shared any official statement regarding the same. This feature is rumoured to arrive either with the March 2023 Pixel Feature Drop or with Android 14 later in the year.
eSIM profile transfer: Android vs iOS
Currently, Android doesn’t allow users to easily transfer their eSIM profile from one phone to another. For that, users have to deactivate the eSIM profile on their old phone and re-activate it on your new phone. This process is not only complicated but users may also have to contact their carrier to activate the eSIM on their new phone.

Meanwhile, iPhones come with a built-in Quick Transfer feature that allows users to transfer their physical or eSIMs from their old phones to a new model without needing to contact their carrier.
How Google is planning to bring the seamless eSIM transfer feature to Android
According to a tweet shared by Mishaal Rahman (first spotted by XDA Developers), Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 adds a new system property ‘euicc.seamless_transfer_enabled_in_non_qs,’ which hints at the eSIM transfer feature. This feature is expected to enable Android users to easily transfer an eSIM profile from their old Android phone to a new phone. The upcoming feature may also allow users to convert a physical SIM card on an old phone into an eSIM profile on a new phone.

Moreover, Rahman has also mentioned that Google is expected to add this feature in the SIM Manager app on its Pixel phones and other phones that ship with Google Mobile Services. The report didn’t mention the complete compatibility details, but Google’s Pixel lineup is rumoured to support both eSIM features. Smartphones from other brands are also expected to get the eSIM profile transfers, however, the ability to convert a physical SIM to an eSIM profile may be limited only to a few models.
