Google is finally shutting out the Google Now Launcher. According to a report by 9to5Google, Google is completely shutting down the Google Now Launcher after 10 years. The report adds that the tech giant will shut down the launcher by the end of this month.
Launched in 2012, Google Now was a simple launcher which was initially known as the Google Experience Launcher (GEL). Then in 2014, the company started its wider release as the Google Now Launcher for all Android 4.1+ devices via the Google Play Store. The launcher offered easy access to the Google Now cards and a neat and clean user interface.
In 2017, Google informed its partners that it would be phasing out its primary feature, Google Now access, from the Google Now Launcher (GNL), as it had made this capability available to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) launchers. Instead, Google had started using the Pixel Launcher for its own phones. Although the GNL received some updates through the Google app, it was no longer a top priority for the company, as the Assistant had gained prominence.
The Google Nexus 5X and 6P were the last Google smartphones to run the Google Now Launcher. Google ended the support for these devices in 2018.

Initially introduced in 2019, the service known as Currents will be discontinued by the company after just three years of operation. The decision to terminate the service was attributed to its low usage, and it will be replaced by Chat and Spaces, which were recently integrated into Gmail.
The company has announced that the shutdown of Currents will be completed in 2023. In addition, the search engine giant has assured users of the implementation of new features on Spaces to facilitate a smooth migration process from Currents to Spaces.
