Google has a new sound for incoming Messages on Android smartphones – Times of India

0
Google has been continuously working on its Messaging app for Android. In October, the company revealed a redesigned logo for the app and now it’s time for the app to undergo some internal changes. With this, users will now be able to change the notification sound that plays when there’s an incoming message.
The Google Messages app will also notify the user of incoming or outgoing messages when a thread is open.
“Whenever you press the send arrow in a conversation, Google Messages plays a confirmatory sound — if calls and notifications are set to ring. This beep was loud and prominent, but the SMS/RCS app is now switching to something quieter and ever so slightly shorter,” reports 9to5Google.

To change the notification sound on Google Messages, follow these steps:
1) Open the Settings app on an Android phone.
2) Tap Sound and Vibration
3) Now, tap the Default notification sound
Hit the box and a list of sounds will appear on the screen. Do not forget to tap ‘save’ from the top right side of the screen after selecting the sound.
Now use more emojis to react to messages
Other notable changes are the Rich Communication Service (RCS) in Google Messages which allows users to react using any emoji instead of selecting from the limited number–seven–that are currently available.
New check marks arrive on Google Messages
Adding to a seamless conversation are the new checkmarks for sent, delivered and read messages.
If a message is ‘sent’, then it will show a small check mark inside a circle while a ‘delivered’ text will show two check marks inside two concentric circles. Lastly, the read message will appear with two check marks inside two coloured concentric circles.
Google’s Photo Picker feature gets updated
Google has started testing a new feature which is gallery-focused– a photo picker for its Messages feature.
As per a previous report by 9to5Google, the redesigned photo feature has already started appearing for some users on the Google Messages app.
The report also suggests that the new photo picker can be launched from the left side of the text fields and shows the recently clicked pictures under the live camera alongside the Gallery option next to it.
Users will now be able to see 22 more images by swiping left and also get a shortcut to open the camera.
