GitHub content domain blocked for these Indian users: Reports – Times of India
As per the complaints on Twitter, the content domain has been blocked for users who use ACT Fibernet broadband. However, it has also been reported to have been blocked on certain ISPs in India. When we checked, we could access the website.
Why GitHub has been blocked
While the reason for blocking the website has not been known, security researcher Karan Saini’s said, “The ‘raw[.]githubusercontent[.]com’ host, which serves files for every single @github repository to users all over the world, has been blocked in India for users of @ACTFibernet , likely at the Govt.’s behest.”.
Saini also said that blocking the URL would “heavily degrade the functionality of the platform.”
Places where ACT Fibernet has blocked GitHub
Replying to Saini’s tweet, a user claimed that the blocks on ACT Fibernet are inconsistent because the “raw.git” website loaded “fine” for him. Saini replied by saying that the black appears to be for users in Bengaluru and Delhi. “I’m guessing HYD hasn’t propagated yet?” he said. Some users in Rajasthan have also been affected by the block.
GitHub is a platform that allows developers to build, scale, and deliver secure software. Recently, a report cited GitHub CEO as saying that artificial intelligence will not replace developers. He said that AI may have become proficient in answering queries and writing code, there will still be a need for developers, said GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke.
As per Dohmke, human intelligence still reigns when it comes to solving complex problems, and people can do it more productively with the help of AI.
